Leave it to Wisconsin to be home to the largest farmers’ market in America. We are not referring to street performers and fun game booths. We are talking about a farmers-only market. Formerly held at the Capitol Square on Saturday mornings between April and November, the 2021 season will be held at the Alliant Energy Center. The Capitol Square Police will not issue the market their permit as they are deemed too large of an operation to occur at this time safely.
The Market released a statement on March 11th, 2021, saying, “Our fundamental mission is to ensure that Wisconsin family farms and small food businesses can be economically viable and that our community has access to high-quality, fresh local foods. This mission continues whether we are permitted to be on the Square or not.”
The 2021 outdoor market will start on April 10th and run from seven in the morning until noon. The option to pre-order goods or impromptu shop will still be available. Dane County Farmers’ Market asks patrons to refer to DCFM Safe Shopper Code of Conduct before attending.
The Wednesday market held at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard will provide pre-order with drive-thru pick-up in the afternoon. Food pick-ups are under Pavilion 2 and will be moving to the Exhibition Hall parking lot as of March 24th. Dane County Farmers Market thanks their loyal supporters and asks them to utilize pre-order and food pick-up to keep the market open during these trying times.
